Design optimization for manufacturing and assembly
Defour Oy, based in Turku, is a long-standing expert in product design. Our design is always based on the needs of both the customer and the end user. We help our customers with product development and production challenges. Manufacturability design is part of conceptualization and product design. In this process, we optimize the manufacturability of products, solve production technology challenges (DFM) and assembly (DFA). Products are designed in such a way that they are easy to manufacture. For example, the product structure is simplified and the number of product parts and possible errors in assembly are minimized. Manufacturability design enables the efficient manufacture and assembly of the product in a cost-effective manner.
The intended use and environment of the product may have such boundary conditions that only certain materials have the properties to meet these user requirements. As production needs and volumes develop, the most suitable methods for each stage are sought, such as injection molding, metal casting, reaction casting (RIM, PUR), extrusions, vacuum and deep-die forming, bending and edging, machining, welding assemblies and surface treatments. The advanced manufacturing operating model we have developed enables the production of prototypes not only more efficiently but also more economically. In addition, useful information is obtained for further design, which reduces costs at the end of the product development process.
